Must See: IRON MAN 3
THE PREMISE: As Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) deals with what happened in Marvel’s The Avengers, a new threat looms in the horizon. A terrorist known as The Mandarin (Ben Kingsley) has set his sights on America and his actions may cause huge ramifications on the lives of Tony Stark and his friends.
The best Iron Man movie in my opinion. It definitely has the best climax of the three movies. If you’ve seen the trailers, you already know what I mean. Though ironically (pun intended), I feel this movie had less Iron Man than the first two. It had, I think, more Tony scenes or maybe it looked that way because Tony went into enemy territory and into battle without the suit. Probably to further drive in the theme of the movie - that Tony Stark IS Iron Man. Definitely a must see!
Two things I didn’t like: (1) The Mandarin. Shane Black hates the Mandarin! It was a Marvel directive for him to be the villain in the movie. But what Black did was make him into some generic villain. They could have used a different name for him and it would still work. Maybe they should’ve. (2) The after credits. It’s maybe because Robert Downey Jr. is not locked in for more movies but that ending was lame. Sure, it was funny when they did that as a second after credit scene for the Avengers but I really didn’t like it this time. They should’ve at least set up the next movies of Phase 2.
