TRESE: Last Seen After Midnight
I’m making this review as honest as I can. That line never sounds right and I’m sorry if I offend anyone with it.
So I bought TRESE Book 4 last KOMIKON and let me tell you, I was a bit disappointed. After the awesomeness of the reveals on Book 3, we are back to the procedural type stories of Books One and Two. The story “Cadena De Amor”, I’ve already read from previews. I bet you could still find that on the web and judge for yourself.
The second story entitled “A Private Collection” felt like I’ve read it before. In fact, I learned from the final pages that it was a rehash of an old Trese story that was published in some magazine. They tried to turn that into a movie and when it fell through, decided to put it into Book 4.
The third story, “Wanted: Bedspacer” is alright. It gives a different twist to the commonly-known bangungot lore. And that’s all I’m going to say about that because I can’t wait to say something about the fourth and final story.
Entitled “Fight Of The Year”. It’s great that they put this as the last story as it was the best story from the book. It’s about a certain boxer from General Santos City named Manuel—the greatest the country has to offer! Do you know why crime rates drop during his fights? Do you know why he is unbeatable? Why he keeps on fighting? Well, this story will answer those questions. And the villain of this story, hehe… good one Mr. Budjette Tan.
As for the art, well Kajo Baldisimo delivers as always. I just wish I could have gotten the special edition variant cover/dustjacket. The regular cover looks, well, regular. Fortunately, I got other TRESE merchandise during the Kon. Well, 3 shirts… two of those from the Electromagnetic Tentacle booth
