Wan Mananita’s ANG MORION # 1-4
So I haven’t reviewed some komiks for a while now, huh. Thankfully, I was able to attend KOMIKON last week and so here’s part 1. Hopefully if time permits, there’ll be more (Yeah, I got a lot of books).
When I bought, Morion #4 from creator Wan Mananita last Saturday, he specifically asked me to write a review about his title. I’m ashamed to say that I haven’t read the series yet in its entirety. So today I dug the old issues out of my vault so I could write a proper review. So here goes:
Morion is a character who most people would know as a founding member of Bayan Knights, a hero who was recruited by Sarhento Sagrado himself. These books tell the story of how Serafin Malinao, got his awesome metallic abilities.
The origin is told via flashbacks and although it’s quite awesome (I’ll get to that later), I was at first a bit confused with the jumping from present time to past to present. It took some getting used to—especially when it happened on the same page. However, as those of us who read Unos Mundos know, Wan is a quite a story teller—someone who has interesting ideas. And his idea for Morion: quite impressive! Not only did he give Morion a natural/organic rogues gallery, he was also able to craft a very unique origin him. One that, although a tried and tested trope, is in my opinion quite uncharacteristic for such a character. And that’s what makes it awesome.
So if you wanna learn more about the core team’s resident guar—nope I won’t say—you must get a copy of issues 1 to 4 of ANG MORION. You have got to see that (second to the) last page! It’s quite an image! I wonder if Morion is somehow related to Powerhouse division’s….naaah.
