It was a long walk from Robinsons Galleria back to our office in RBC. While walking, a chain of thought ran through my head. What if we legalize “lagay”? What’s that, you ask. That’s what we Filipinos call the money we give to traffic enforcers when they catch as breaking traffic rules. Yeah, I know what you’re thinking: this is such a moronic idea. Well, think about it.
What if when a traffic enforcer catches you, instead of giving him “lagay”, you pay your fine through SMS. Instead of him asking for money, he gets a percentage from the transaction—a commission. And since no actual money is used for the transaction, there would be less chance of corruption.
Ofcourse things could not go as planned… like enforcers fining you for violations you did not commit. So there should also be checks and balances. You could file a complaint and enforcers proven to be giving phony violations would instantly be removed from service. Ofcourse, complainants exploiting this would have instant jail time. More importantly, there should be a super group, a trusted few enforcing this and they should be incorruptible.
THE PREMISE: When the Dark Ultra Warrior, Ultraman Belial is released from his eternal prison, Ultraman Mebius must seek the help of a half-Rayonix human named Rei to combat the all-powerful threat. Joined by the other remaining Ultramen, they must defeat Belial before he resurrects and unleash all the previously defeated monsters slumbering in the Monster Graveyard. But what happens when our heroes fail? Who can save the universe from Ultraman Belial?
I haven’t seen an Ultraman series since Ultaman Tiga and Dyna and so I am a bit outdated when it comes to the Ultraman mythos. But man, I bet this is the best Ultraman movie to have come out thus far. Not only do our screen fill with previous Ultra Warriors, there are also numerous character moments for the classic Ultramen or as Belial calls them, the old guard. We get a glimpse of Father and Mother of Ultra during their younger days which also reveals their actual Ultraman names. But most importantly, the true origins of Planet Ultra and the Ultra Warriors are finally revealed. I haven’t even mentioned, the fight sequences. This movie is awesome! Though I have to admit, I get a little bit out of breathe trying to say its ridiculously long title.
